Prawn Bisque

Another craving that had me yearning to give it a go……… nothing like a good bisque! Using the Gourmet Traveller’s recipe as a guide, I gave it a go, but adjusted the amounts as necessary. The flavour was lovely……. with a saffron’y taste to it, but there wasn’t any saffron at all!! It’s worth another try….. I saved the other half of the raw prawns that Lek bought.

No commentsLek’s craving…….. for callos

Callos madrilena (ox tripe, chorizo and chick peas)
When there’s a craving for a particular food, there’s no point resisting. Use all your power to satisfy your instant fetish by going to the ends of the world. In this case, Lek had a craving from spanish style callos. The textures of the ox tripe gives you a lovely flavour, especially, when you mix it with paprika and chorizo! This one was slowly simmered in a french casserole while I prepared some deep fried potato and garlic prawns.

chicken pandan, mu ping
Saturday lunch with a bunch of friends and heaps of thai-style street food is the way to go! A lot of marinating needs to be done beforehand, but it’s well worth the effort the night before. The lovely flavours of garlic and coriander mixed with thick sweet soya sauce gives it’s a fragrant smoke from the charcoal bbq. Add to that, thai-style bbq pork and rice, pork knuckle and rice, kway chap with all the offal-goodies and then the thai-style coconut and water chestnut dessert! Enough to make you unbutton your top button of your shorts to make more room!

Apparently quite popular and a recommendation by an acquaintance so we had to try it out. Not really a dessert person, but with coffee, you can’t go wrong.
No commentsJen-Ngor

Stir-fried vermicelli with mimoza and prawns
Well, we always have to go back to Jen-Ngor! This time, it was at another franchise but the food is always the same (=great!) and you’re guaranteed to be immobile at the end of it. Come to think of it, it’s the same selection from the menu! *lol* Can’t complain! It’s the best thing!

No commentsMore Bangkok Street Food – Fish Maw

Everything comes in a bag.... the fish maw and noodles.
I think this is one my favourite street foods after my usual roti. Fish maw soup with noodles. It’s got chicken, quail eggs and bamboo shoots. The lady on the street had the largest pot full of this stuff! Until you try this, you don’t know what you’re missing out on.

when it's present like this on a plate at home, it certainly doesn't look like street food

Grand Opening: iSEA @ Veranda Resort & Spa, Hua Hin

By special invite only, we were lucky enough to mingle with the TV celebrities and a swarm of media reporters who were there for Ian Chalermkittichai’s new iSEA restaurant opening at Veranda Resort & Spa in Hua Hin, Thailand. Surrounded by the beach and the infinity pool, it’s a breezy, open, inviting place that’s relaxing for the customers.
